Boost Your Metabolism with Omega-3's

Unlock the Benefits of Omega-3s & Boost Your Metabolism!

Last week, we discussed the importance of Omega-3 fatty acids for improving overall health and balancing them with Omega-6s. I heard from several of you that found that info helpful!

As a quick refresher, Omega-3s offer a range of powerful benefits for your body, including:

  • Heart Health

  • Brain Function & Cognitive Performance

  • Reduced Inflammation

  • Mental Health Support

  • Joint Health

  • Eye Health

Here’s something fascinating: A 2015 study—although small and focused on older women—showed that fish oil may also boost resting metabolic rate (RMR) and improve body composition. This could be especially beneficial for post-menopausal women!

The Study Details: Researchers studied 24 older women (average age: 66). Half of the women took 3 grams of fish oil daily (2g EPA, 1g DHA), while the other half took olive oil as a placebo. Both groups had the same calorie intake.

After 12 weeks, the fish oil group experienced significant changes:

  • 14% increase in resting metabolic rate

  • ~10% increase in energy expenditure during exercise

  • 19% higher fat oxidation at rest, and 27% higher during exercise

  • 4% increase in lean mass (1.6 kg increase)

  • Improved VO2max (no change in placebo group)

  • Resting heart rate dropped by ~3 bpm (again, no change in placebo group)

  • Increased metabolic rate even after adjusting for body mass and lean mass

Is fish oil part of your daily routine?
If you’re curious about how to take it for the best results, I’d love to help you with personalized recommendations.
