Women's History Month: Embracing Female Health and Wellness
It's the last day of February, and tomorrow kicks off Women's History Month. As such, the focus of my newsletters in March will be all things female. This should not dissuade my male clients and readers from engaging with the information, as it may very well concern you too, not to mention you may learn a thing or two:-)
If you know a woman, or care about one, this knowledge will be helpful.
A New Area of Focus in My Practice
Today feels like a good time to share what I've been up to recently and a new area of focus and expertise I'm excited to include in working with clients in my private practice. I am currently completing coursework with Dr. Stacy Sims, a world renowned exercise physiologist and nutrition scientist who has published over 70 peer reviewed papers. She is an expert in sex differences in training, nutrition, and health across the lifespan. Soon, I'll receive a certificate in Menopause 2.0 addressing the specific dietary, exercise and lifestyle needs of women in Perimenopause + Menopause.

My Journey in Health and Wellness
It's clear to me now, that my work in this life has always been driven by personal experience, and what is happening in my own body. When Pilates gave strength and stability to this hyper-mobile and extremely flexible dancer - it changed my life profoundly (and saved me from hip replacements at 40!). Compelled to share that knowledge and help others develop strength and move more efficiently, I enthusiastically opened a successful Pilates studio. Later, to heal my body from decades of disordered eating and hormonal issues that brought significant health challenges, I studied and became a Functional Nutritionist. It felt important and powerful to work with young women in similar situations, and help them avoid the mistakes I made, and try to embrace a healthier way. I've met and worked with so many wonderful people along the way, and spent a lot of time guiding and helping clients in recovery from drugs, alcohol, and disordered eating in treatment centers and outpatient programs.
Supporting Clients Through Health Challenges
More recently I've had incredible opportunities to support and guide people experiencing health challenges from metabolic disorders such as pre-diabetes, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular challenges, and more.
I am a curious and life-long learner. A boots-on-the-ground, get in, go deep, discover, educate and share what I've learned... to be of service. I am so grateful for the knowledge and expertise I've garnered from working alongside formidable MD's, ND's, OD's, PsyD's, et al. and by having opportunities to work with so many incredible clients experiencing a wide variety of health issues.
Embracing Mid-Life Transformation
And now, personally entering into my mid-life chrysalis (thank you Chip Conley!) and doing my own deep dive into all things perimenopause and menopause to figure out exactly what was happening in my body, I feel excited and inspired to share what I've learned and help those women who may be experiencing symptoms. It's my profound belief that this third act is the best time in a woman's life, and by shining a light, bringing awareness and guidance to women everywhere, we can live in a thriving, healthy, strong, and symptom-free state of being.

I'm Lisa Thompson, a Functional Nutritionist (FNTP) and I'd like to guide you on a journey to optimal health by providing education, support, accountability, motivation and inspiration. Using a holistic approach, I look deeply at how all of our inter-dependent systems work uniquely, and specifically in each of us- keeping in mind the bigger picture and LIFESTYLE choices that impact our well-being. For instance: how and when we eat, whether we get good sleep, what role exercise plays in our life, and how community, friends, family and belief systems impact our health and vitality.
I am currently taking new clients at this time and would love to work with you.
